Pass user group celebrates 25 years

In April, our Pass system user group celebrated its 25th anniversary.
U-Pass (formerly UPASS) was founded by an independent committee of passFINANCE system users on 27th April 1990. The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for passFINANCE users to hear the latest software news, share knowledge and have their say in long term product direction. This helps us to prioritise enhancement requests and take note of market developments and changes in financial, administrative or development practices in independent schools.
Since its inception, U-Pass and WCBS have formed a mutually beneficial partnership and the user group has become an indispensable resource for many schools. Free of charge U-Pass meetings take place countrywide throughout the academic year and there is a larger National Annual General Meeting every Summer Term. As well as giving users the chance to discuss financial management and related issues and learn about new features to the software, the meetings provide a valuable opportunity for delegates to meet WCBS software development staff, account managers and colleagues from other schools. Such networking opportunities and sharing of ideas and information can be really beneficial for everyone involved.
Alistair Wilkinson from Gresham’s School in Norfolk said of the group:
"UPASS has fulfilled a very important role since 1990, particularly bringing enhancements to the product that we all use. Top tip sessions and training appended to the UPASS termly meetings, particularly for new releases, are always useful. I would recommend UPASS meetings to all users but particularly new users who will benefit from the contact with other schools."
To mark this important milestone, U-Pass has had a branding update. This includes the new logo featured above which is now in a similar style to the recently updated passFINANCE logo, and the change of name from UPASS to U-Pass. We hope that this modern new look reflects the forward thinking outlook of WCBS as a company and that the user group will continue to grow in popularity alongside Pass Finance.
Forthcoming U-Pass events include a Scottish Regional Meeting at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen on 7th May, and the National Annual General Meeting which will take place on 27th May at Bloxham School, Oxfordshire. Entitled Inspect & Survive, the Annual Seminar’s agenda includes a number of guest speakers presenting the latest developments in our sector and provides an opportunity to see demonstrations of related educational software and products.
